Beaufort County - Region 10
Beaufort County was founded in 1712 and is known for its seafood. Washington is the county seat and fondly referred to as “Little Washington”, in order to distinguish it from Washington D.C. Most that are local to the area know it as “The Original Washington”, as it is the first community in America to be named after General George Washington. The Pamlico River runs through the town of Washington, making it a popular place for boating and water sports. Northeast of the well-known Washington waterfront is the Beaufort County Health Department.
